Cybersecurity and current presence

Cybersecurity protects systems, data, and operations. It still must decide whether a protected action may proceed.

Prevention, detection, response, recovery, identity, credentials, access control, endpoint protection, and network defense establish essential conditions. Existence research examines one additional binary condition that the organization observes after private arrival and at protected decisions.

Cybersecurity is not one control and does not fail for one reason.

Organizations protect people, systems, applications, networks, services, information, and operations through layered controls. Some controls prevent. Some detect. Some constrain. Some preserve evidence. Some restore operations after harm.

Existence does not collapse those responsibilities into a single answer. It focuses on the moment when a protected action is about to cross from request to consequence.

Every protected action eventually becomes binary.

A transfer is released or refused. A privileged command executes or does not. A protected record is disclosed or remains closed. A configuration change is committed or stopped.

The system may consider identity, role, risk, device posture, location, network state, application state, and organizational policy. The research asks whether current presence should be another independently established input before selected consequences occur.

Valid security evidence remains valid evidence.

Authentication can establish that required evidence was successfully presented. Authorization can establish that an identity or role is permitted to request an action. Endpoint controls can establish device state. Network controls can establish permitted paths. Monitoring can establish observed behavior.

These facts should not be weakened. The question is whether any one of them independently establishes that the known authorized participant remains present at the exact moment the next protected action is decided.

Historical authority often continues until another control finds a reason to stop it.

After access is granted, a session may continue because its credential remains valid, its timeout has not expired, its token has not been revoked, and no policy condition has failed. That continuation may be reasonable and still remain historical.

Existence establishment completes when the Rendering Agent is released and the organization’s page loads. The organization still requires its own credential and authorization. From that arrival forward, existence maintains itself through recurring heartbeat, and trusted continuation may be made subordinate to the observed result.

The current result is requested where the organization assigns consequence.

The protected function requests the current existence observation before execution. The organization’s existing credential, identity, authorization, and transaction policy still decides whether the action may proceed.

The application does not transfer protected content into the existence path. The network is only the place where the organization observes and uses the current binary result.

The same decision can be reached through different threat paths.

Phishing, stolen credentials, account takeover, session misuse, malicious remote access, insider abuse, and compromised workflows are not the same problem. They require different prevention and response controls.

Where any of those paths reaches a protected action under valid or inherited authority, a separate current-presence condition may still change whether the action is permitted to proceed.

Presence is necessary in some decisions and sufficient in none by itself.

A present participant may still be mistaken, malicious, coerced, inattentive, overprivileged, or operating a compromised endpoint. A secure decision may still require transaction context, separation of duties, risk analysis, device integrity, approval, and monitoring.

Existence contributes one current fact. Cybersecurity remains responsible for the complete decision.

The claim should be tested at the decision point, not accepted as a slogan.
