The finding
A rational decision became an inherited assumption.
For more than fifty years, digital security has advanced around evidence of identity and authority. The participant’s current presence generally remained indirectly asserted.
Why the decision made sense
Early systems solved the problem they could solve.
They accepted credentials, established authority, and allowed useful work to continue. That model was practical, rational, and necessary under the conditions in which it was created.
The finding does not dismiss the work that followed. It isolates one condition the inherited model was never designed to establish directly.
The fact left unestablished
Prior authority is not current participation.
A valid credential establishes something about a credential. An active session establishes something about a session. A recognized device establishes something about a device.
None independently establishes that the known authorized participant is present when the next protected action is requested.
The originating observation
A person cannot perform an action while absent.
The observation is binary. Presence permits the possibility of participation. Absence removes it.
The scientific question became whether that physical truth could be made operationally available before a digital system allowed a protected action to occur.
A different starting point
Trusted participation begins from an assigned relationship.
The method does not ask anonymous or identified public access to become trusted through another indirect assertion. An organization already knows the people it authorizes. The unresolved question is whether the known person is present when authority becomes action.
The architecture therefore begins with assigned identification, assigned authority, independent observation, and a private, role-governed interaction.
